What is RON?

Remote Online Notarization (RON) is a process that allows documents to be notarized online via a secure video conference. It is the act of performing a notarization remotely using a state-approved two-way audio-video Notary platform, making it the online equivalent of an in-person, paper-based notarization where every part of the process is done via the Internet.

Is RON legally accepted?

Yes, RON is legally accepted in many states and countries when the Notary has state-approved training and uses a state-approved platform, allowing you to notarize documents online just as you would in person. RON is allowed in 47 states; the only states that currently do not allow RON are South Carolina, Georgia, and Mississippi. Whether you're in a state that does or does not allow notaries to perform RON signings, it's crucial to check with the individual or office receiving the document to confirm if they will accept electronically notarized documents.

Is RON secure?

Absolutely. RON utilizes a state-approved platform that employs advanced encryption and security measures to protect your personal information and ensure the authenticity of your documents. Signers prove their identification by uploading an ID, which the platform uses to run a facial match analysis, and by answering KBA questions. Each notarization session is recorded and stored for 10 years to provide a secure audit trail.

How does RON work?

RON works through a secure video conference platform. You must have a PDF version of your document, a valid government-issued ID, and access to a laptop, computer, smartphone, or tablet with a camera and microphone, along with reliable internet or cell service. The process starts by contacting me to schedule a time, then emailing me your PDF. I will then prepare the document with text and signature boxes. At your appointment time, you will receive an email invite from me. You will accept the invite, upload your identification, and then we will connect where you will fill out and sign your document in just a few clicks.

What if I'm not at home?

No problem! One of the key advantages of RON is its flexibility. You can complete the notarization process from anywhere with an internet connection, whether you're at home, at work, or traveling. As long as I (the Notary) am currently within my state's borders, you can be located in any state or country.

How quick is the process?

The RON process is very quick. As long as I'm available, I do accept same-day appointments. The actual notarization session usually takes about 10-30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the document and the verification process. You then receive a PDF version of the notarized document immediately after the meeting ends. This makes RON a convenient and time-saving option for notarizing your documents.

Why does having my document remotely notarized cost?

As the notary, I pay a monthly fee to the state-approved platform that facilitates the RON process. Additionally, I incur costs for every video and audio recording, which depend on their length and must be stored securely for 10 years. Each ID verification also comes with a fee, as does the placement of every digital notary stamp. These expenses ensure that the RON process remains secure, compliant, and efficient.
